Marching to Military Music: Republic Day Parade Rehearsals: After moving from North Bengal to Delhi, I began documenting the Republic Day Parade (RDP), India’s grand annual celebration of its Constitution, military power, and cultural pride. My focus gradually shifted to the central role of military bands descendants of British traditions but now deeply Indianised. From camel-mounted orchestras to cadet and school groups, these bands infuse patriotism, discipline, and rhythm into the spectacle, culminating in the Beating Retreat ceremony. Through years of photographing rehearsals and performances, I’ve witnessed the immense effort behind the precision and music.
